The Road Goes Ever On and On

The Road Goes Ever On and On cover

The Road Goes Ever On and On is a fic based upon Guy Gavriel Kay’s Fionavar Tapestry. It is canon-compliant up to the end of the Fionavar Tapestry but diverges from Kay’s later novel involving some of these characters, Ysabel.

The old cops always tell the cadets, ‘There’s always going to be one or two cases that strike harder than the others, for whatever reason — what place you’re in when they crop up, what the outcome is, something about the people involved. Watch those. If you aren’t careful, they’re the ones that will take over your life.’

For forty years, Toronto cop Sean has been obsessed with the Jennifer Lowell case. She and two friends vanished on a trip to Europe in the late 1970s, when five friends flew out to England on less than two days notice and only two returned. Sean’s suspicion has always rested on Dave Martyniuk, one of the two returnees. But he has never had enough evidence to make a charge stick, and each year that passes has increased Maryniuk’s power and influence, so he is now virtually untouchable.

Three months into Sean’s retirement, chance brings a young student to his home, who he realises holds the key to getting inside Martyniuk’s citadel at last.

Warnings: The author chooses not to warn.

Advisory: The work refers to violent incidents occurring in the original source, dealt with in a detective noir style.
